¹the Marine Corps of
the Texas Republic was established 13 Dec 1836, but no post of Commandant
of the Texas Republic Marine Corps was ever established. Marines were under
the direction of the Navy Department and served under their own officers
aboard ship and ashore but were subject to the orders of the senior naval
officer present.
