Note: The names of the counties are given in adjectival form, until 7 Feb 1997, preceded by Zupanija, since then Zupanija (county) follows the name, except Grad Zagreb (city of Zagreb). The current 20 counties were established on 22 Dec 1990, but their first governments were instituted in May 1993. The governors' title is Zupan/Zupanica often translated as Prefect, the title of federal commissioners during vacancies is Povjerenik.
