Vanuatu Provinces from 1994

Provinces: Malampa - Penama - Sanma - Shefa - Tafea - Torba -

Note: The former 11 island regions were divided into six provinces on 11 Jul 1994 which were granted local autonomy by the Decentralization and Local Government Regions Act No. 1 of 1994. Each province is led by a President of the Provincial Government Council elected by the Provincial Government Council.

Party abbreviations: GJP = Graon mo Jastis Pati/Land and Justice Party (Ni-Vanuatu cultural conservatism, traditionalist, land reform, est.11 Nov 2010); IG = Iauko Group (split from VP, est.2021); IG = Iauko Group (Eagle Group, est.12 Apr 2012); IMIM = Ik Mine Io Movement; LPV = Leaders Party of Vanuatu (est.2015); NUP = National United Party (center-left, social-democratic, christian democratic, Anglophone, nationalist, decentralisation, split from VP, est.6 Sep 1991); PPP = People's Progress Party/Parti Progressiste Populaire (center-left, reformist, social-democratic, split from MPP, est.2001); RDP = Rural Development Party (agrarian, split from IG, est.15 Jan 220); RMC = Reunification of Movements for Change (center-right, conservative, Francophone, est.2012); UPM = Union des Partis Modérés (Union of Moderate Parties, center-right, liberal conservative, Francophone, est.1981); VLM = Vanuatu Labour Party/Vanuatu Leba Pati/Parti Travailliste du Vanuatu (democratic socialist, labor unionist, est.3 Jun 1987); VNDP = Vanuatu National Development Party (est.Jul 2014); VNP = Vanuatu National Party (est.2004); VP = Vanua'aku Pati (My Land Party, center-left, democratic-socialist, Melanesian socialist, Anglophone, nationalist, 1971-77 named New Hebrides National Party [NHNP], est.17 Aug 1971)
