Note: Italy was divided into regions by the constitution of 1948, five of which (autonomous regions) were granted autonomy. Limited regional autonomy for remaining regions (ordinary regions) was postponed until 1970. Constitutional amendments in 2001 increased level of autonomy of ordinary regions closer to the level of autonomous regions.

On 29 Nov 1918, Italian forces dissolve the council. 
10 Sep 1919                Formally ceded by Austria to Italy by Treaty of Saint-Germain-en-Laye.
16 Jul 1920                Southern part of Tyrol province (about half), and a small 
                             part of Carinthia, formally transferred to Italy by Austria
