1448/49                    Kayra (Keira) Fur dynasty established.
c.1603                     Darfur sultanate (Saltanat al-Darfur).
24 Oct 1874 - 23 Dec 1883  Annexed to Egyptian Sudan by force under al-Zubayr Rahma (d. 1913).
                             Darfur province is divided into five mudirates - Dar Tokunyawi,
                             Dar Uma, Dar-Dima, Dar-Dali, and Dar el-Gharb)(see under Egyptian
                             Sudan provinces), but Keira led resistance continues.

23 Dec 1883 - 21 Mar 1899  Part of the Mahdiya (see under Sudan).
21 Mar 1899                Sultanate restored as a vassal state of the Anglo-Egyptian Sudan.
Apr 1915                   Sultan renounces allegiance to the government of Anglo-Egyptian
                             Sudan and declares for the Ottoman Empire.
16 Mar 1916 -  6 Nov 1916  British and Egyptian invasion of Darfur.
23 May 1916                Anglo-Egyptian forces occupy al-Fashir, state extinguished.
 6 Nov 1916                Last Sultan
`Ali Dinar bin Zakariyya dies.
 1 Nov 1917                Darfur formally annexed to the Anglo-Egyptian Sudan
